10 Ways to Practice Self-Love on Valentine’s Day: Single or Not
Valentine’s Day is a day full of love and all things mushy. There are those that love the roses, excessively large bears, and chocolate (even I love the chocolate), then there are those that cringe at the sight of the over the top bouquets being delivered to everyone in the office and spend the day binging on valentine’s day meme’s and wine.
I mean, society has made it seem as though being single or alone on Valentine’s Day is a bad thing. Reality check! It’s not! It’s even better. You don’t have to focus on anyone but yourself. You don’t have to worry about wasting money on cliche gifts or try to figure out what to do together that both of you will enjoy.
I mean, even if you’re in a relationship and love celebrating Valentine’s Day, practicing self-love on a day meant for celebrating love is almost common sense.
You can thank me later.
Here are 10 ways you can celebrate Valentine’s Day for YOU.
1. Have a Solo Date
You’re the winner here. After all, you don’t have to worry about what anyone else wants to do. Think of all the things you want to do that day and do them. My favorite day would be to work out early in the morning, have a great day at work, binge on some drama-filled series on Netflix, eat ice cream, and fall asleep whenever I want. Point is, live your perfect day!
2. Go Out With Your Single Friends
Chances are, you have friends or acquaintances that are single, and more than likely not wanting to spend the day alone either. Plan on spending some time together. Go to a movie, have a drink at your favorite brewery or distillery, get brunch, attend a wine and painting class, go to yoga, whatever.
3. Spend Time With Those You Love
Spend time with your family, your fur babies, your human babies. Surrounding yourself with those that you enjoy and care for is always time well spent. If you hate being alone on Valentine’s Day this is definitely going to be your go to.
4. Have a Netflix Marathon
If you’re like me and can binge an entire series in a day like a champ I suggest you buy some snacks, sit them all near you by the couch or bed, and watch a series you’ve been wanting to watch. There’s an endless supply at your fingertips.
5. Have a Cheat Day
Do you normally count your macros or simply just try not to eat like a pig? Not today, today you splurge. Eat whatever your little heart desires. You’re not going to throw your entire health routine out the window for giving yourself a break for a single day.
6. Pamper Yourself
Like I mentioned before, on a day dedicated to celebrating love, what better way to bask in loves glory than by investing in and pampering yourself. Get your nails and/or hair done, schedule a massage, spend some time in a sensory deprivation tank, get a facial.
7. Try Something New
I‘m a huge believer in personal development and challenging yourself, so, any chance I get to recommend trying something new and challenging I’m going to. Think of something you’ve been wanting to try but have been too nervous to or maybe something you just haven’t been able to get around to. Do it. This can be as simple as starting a new book, going for a run, starting a journal.
8. Order Take Out or Make a Bomb Dinner
Here’s your opportunity to learn a new recipe or order your favorite take out, depending on whether you enjoy cooking or not. Either way you can invite your friends or family over to enjoy a meal together.
9. Do Something Relaxing
When most people think of relaxing they think of bubble baths and face masks but relaxing does not have to be just these things. If you want to take a bubble bath with three bath bombs go for it, if you don’t, don’t. Relaxation is different for everyone. Think of the things you’re doing when you’re calm, the things that calm your mind and do those things.
10. Go On a Solo Trip
Traveling alone is one of the most rejuvenating experiences I’ve had. There’s something about spending time alone in an unfamiliar place that is soothing. Take a road trip somewhere new and explore, spend a couple days camping, go on a 2/510 mile hike, anything you enjoy that is going to relax your soul.
